Winter Skin Survival Tips

The winter season calls for lots of layering... jackets, scarves, and fuzzy socks with a heater on deck. However, we tend to forget that our skin needs a little more TLC as well! The same way we transition our wardrobes from day dresses and sandals in warmer temperatures, to boots, coats and hats in the colder temperatures, we need to make a few adjustments to our skincare routines.  Make these easy changes below for full skin benefits. You will thank us later!

Cleanser Cleanse!

Cold weather tends to dry out our skin, so the cleanser you normally use may not be hydrating enough during the winter season. When looking for your winter cleanser, make sure you find one that’s gentle and has more hydrating ingredients (so it doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils). Try Schique’s Pure Clarity Daily Cleanser.

Remember to Moisturize (a lot)!

Between using heaters and the cold winds, your skin is probably craving moisture during winter time. After your cleanser, use a moisturizer in your routine to protect your skin and prevent dry patches. Keeping your skin as nourished as possible will leave you looking glowing and radiant. Try Schique’s Lumistone Hydration Face Moisturizer.

Time for a Humidifier!

A humidifier has many benefits, especially during the winter! Whether you buy a warm mist or cool mist is entirely up to you, as both release moisture and fight allergies. If you’re looking for extra moisture saturation, we recommend getting a warm mist one. If you’re looking to remove impurities in the air and would prefer a humidifier that makes minimal noise, we recommend a cool mist one. Both types will keep you hydrated and feeling healthy!

Give your Hands a touch of love!

The layer of skin on our hands is much thinner than the rest of the body, meaning that signs of aging will likely show up on our hands first. Applying hand cream throughout the day will prevent cracking, chapping and chafing skin. Hand creams are made with more oils and moisturizers than normal body lotions to help fight dryness.

Step up your foot care!

Whilst we love boot season, shoving our feet into socks and then boots tend to dry out our feet. In fact, your feet can even get as dry and chapped as your lips do in the winter! Who would have known?! Make sure you apply a foot cream daily, and if you don’t want to buy one, you can make an olive oil and sea salt scrub at home to moisturize and exfoliate your feet.

Turn down the heat… in the shower!

Hot showers and baths sound (and feel!) so good in the winter as a way to warm up, but they can have damaging effects on your skin. Hot showers and baths will make your skin extremely dry and can cause redness, itching, scaling and cracking. Instead, try a 10-15 mins lukewarm shower to maximize skin hydration.

Keep these tips in mind to survive these icy winter months and keep that glow going through all the seasons!
